Personalized Learning
RUSD prepares students to become purposeful contributors to a global society through learning experiences that promote student ownership of the path and pace of their education.
Why Personalized Learning in RUSD?
We, like other districts are doing our best to address a multifaceted problem. The major components, as we see them, are as follows:
- Learning has changed.
- Students have changed.
- Demands upon the school system have changed.
- Despite focused efforts, we experience gaps in providing service to students.
- Our community stakeholders have directly requested specific change.
Design Elements
Cohort 1
A design team from each Cohort 1 school developed an implementation model. The first group of teachers piloted the implementation in the 2014-2015 school year and selected two design criteria for launch in the 2015-2016 school year. All schools will add components over time and scale the model to full site, including all teachers and students.
Cohort 2
In spring 2015, Cohort 2 schools submitted a draft plan and three teams were selected to pilot their implementation model during the 2015-2016 school year. These schools will build background knowledge about the five design criteria and work to adapt their model to successfully implement personalized learning in their own context.
Custom Schools
Once school design teams have implemented all five design criteria, schools will be awarded the status of Custom School of RUSD. This designation identifies school that have transitioned to a personalized learning environment that has a focus of student lead learning.
